The Virtual Bootcamp is offered in 7 learning modules. Each module, released weekly over 7 weeks, includes training modules, downloadable tools, skill-building exercises, and the opportunity to apply the content immediately to start building your first app.
MODULE 1
The App Brief
We’ll start by reviewing the details of the application that we will be building together. We’ll discuss the importance of gathering requirements, asking the right questions, and coming up with a list of features that we will be including in our application. Our goal is to focus on repeatable actions so that we don’t have to reinvent the wheel each time we build a new app. It is important to plan ahead so that we can do our best to avoid having to recreate certain parts of our app.
MODULE 2
Look and feel
An intuitive and user-friendly app needs some integral components to ensure that your audience can use the app without having to first study a training manual. In addition, before you start building out the elements from the requirements, it's important to first wireframe or lay out the various elements on a page, whether that be on paper or created digitally. In this module, we talk about a simple exercise to complete this step.
MODULE 3
User Interface
We’ll explore the various components in the user interface for each screen in our app. While this course explores building apps without code, there will be some functions that we'll utilize, however, if you have some Excel skills, you're already halfway there. In this module, we'll use a WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) editor to layout the screens in our app.
MODULE 4
Information Storage
While it may be simple enough to email yourself all the information that your audience enters into your app, it's not always the best approach. It is definitely better to store that information somewhere. In the past, we've used Excel spreadsheets or even built an Access database. Now it's time to explore more options available to you. In this module, we'll also discuss adding some automation processes to your app to streamline how the app works.
MODULE 5
Reporting
In this module, we'll add the ability to automatically send out some basic reporting to your manager to ensure transparency. We will automate this process using a simple workflow application.
MODULE 6
Testing the App
Before we can share our app with our colleagues or other users in our organization, it is vitally important that we first test the app. Our goal here is to catch any unexpected behavior or bugs. In this module, we'll walk through a simple process to test your app.
MODULE 7
Sharing the App
In this final module, we'll wrap our the course by discussing how simple it is to share our app within our organization and some important steps to ensure that your audience has the access they need to do so.

Do I need to purchase any software?
There is no need to purchase any software or tools. For any needed software or tools, we will provide you with links to access free tools and trial versions of applications that you will need.

Do I need to know how to write code?
Thankfully you will not need any coding or programming experience or understanding. If you have experience with Excel and writing simply formulas, then you have all the skills you need.
